About Me

Peterson Garden Project founder, award-winning Illinois Extension Master Gardener, Square Foot Gardening instructor, author and speaker.
I spend my time evangelizing about food gardening education and community garden programs as a way toward empowerment, self-sufficiency and community.

I want to teach everyone I meet how to grow their own food… Seriously.

Hi. I’m LaManda Joy and I teach people how to grow food and community. I live in Chicago, Illinois and spend a lot of time in Portland, Oregon, too. In between, I travel around the country teaching, speaking and inspiring people to use food gardening as a means to greater joy, better nutrition and stronger communities.

Interested in a speaking engagement information is available via the Timber Press Speaker’s Bureau

Want to see press related to me or the Peterson Garden Project? You can find that here.

Curious how to order a copy of my first book (with Teresa Gale) Fearless Food Gardening in Chicagoland: A Month-by-month Gardening Guide for Beginners? You can do that here.

If you want info on how to start a community garden, you can buy my newest book Start a Community Food Garden: The Essential Handbook and become a member of the American Community Gardening Association here.

And if your business or organization is interested in implementing a garden program, I am available to consult on select projects.

If you have any questions, or ideas you’d like to share, feel free to reach out and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can!

“We can grow it!”
