Food Gardening Education

Food Gardening Education

For the past five years I have been working diligently to provide as much food gardening education as possible, to as many people as possible. Besides this blog, which was inspired by my home garden, The Yarden, I founded Peterson Garden Project which has become a resource for thousands learning to grow their own food in Chicago.

The PGP blog, We Can Grow It, has a lot of good information you might find useful. Thanks to support from our neighborhood hospital, Swedish Covenant, we’re also starting a YouTube channel with short, real-time videos called The Garden Minute and The Kitchen Minute so busy folks can use their smart phone or computer to learn.

And, of course, we published Fearless Food Gardening: A Month-by-month Growing Guide for Beginners this spring. The response has been tremendous and it is so exciting to have people feel they have a resource that truly speaks to their needs.

Growing food is so joyous, and important, I feel honored to be able to share this information with people. And I hope these various channels will be of use to you as you learn, or teach others, this important skill. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions…

  1. Thanks for all the work you have put into this blog and the countless others you have helped out. I have always been a fan of growing my own food because it gives you an immense sense of satisfaction that you can look after yourself.

  2. Thank you a lot for this information! I moved to a new house with an incredible garden and I want to grow some vegetables there but I don’t know much about the gardening. So thanks again!
